Weekend is always the point where the NFL playoffs start to feel properly real.
It's the first knockout stage of the postseason, where teams that finished just
behind their division winners get one final chance to keep their Super Bowl
dreams alive. A single defeat ends everything.
A few weekends on, it’s clear those opening games mattered more than they first appeared.
Across three
days and six games, the margins were tiny. Regular-season form stopped counting
for much. What mattered was who could keep their heads when the spotlight was
brightest.

The weekend
opened with a thriller. The Los Angeles Rams squeezed past the Carolina
Panthers 34–31 in a game that swung back and forth until the final moments.
Both offences found rhythm early, trading scores and keeping the pressure on
throughout. But the Rams kept their nerve when it mattered most, holding on in
a contest that could've gone either way.
Saturday
night brought one of the NFL's most famous rivalries back into the spotlight.
The Chicago Bears knocked out the Green Bay Packers 31–27 in a game full of
momentum swings. Chicago capitalised on key mistakes and produced crucial stops
in the closing stages, ending Green Bay's season and giving Bears fans a
playoff win they'll remember for years.

Sunday's
action kicked off with another tight encounter. The Buffalo Bills saw off the
Jacksonville Jaguars 27–24, building a narrow lead and then defending it deep
into the fourth quarter. The Bills showed composure and discipline when the
Jaguars threatened a late comeback, but they didn't crack under the strain.
The San
Francisco 49ers reminded everyone why they are so dangerous in playoff
football, beating the reigning champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, 23–19. They
knocked out a side many had backed heavily in pre-playoff discussion and NFL betting markets alike. It wasn't a flashy
performance, but it was clinical, built on defensive pressure and timely
execution. The 49ers once again showed how tough they are to beat when the
stakes are at their highest.
The evening
game saw the New England Patriots produce one of the weekend's most dominant
displays, dismantling the Los Angeles Chargers 16–3. While the scoreline
suggested a low-scoring affair, the Patriots controlled the game's rhythm from
start to finish. They relied on defensive discipline and smart game management
to shut the Chargers down almost completely, never allowing them to find any
offensive momentum. The Patriots have since gone on to book their place in this
year’s Super Bowl, where they will face the Seattle Seahawks. What looked like
a low-key Wild Card win has turned out to be the foundation of another Patriots
title challenge.

Wild Card
Weekend wrapped up on Monday night with the Houston Texans delivering the
round's most emphatic result, overpowering the Pittsburgh Steelers 30–6.
Houston came out strong and never let Pittsburgh settle, combining defensive
intensity with efficient offence to turn it into a one-sided affair long before
the final whistle. The Texans made a statement that they're a team to watch as
the playoffs progress.
